Being the Change

g

Barack Obama has said from the beginning of this campaign that it is the people who must believe— not just in his ability to bring about change in Washington— but in theirs.  He has couched these exhortations in what he calls the fierce urgency of NOW.  It’s as rousing a call to the responsibilities of citizenship you’re likely to hear from any candidate for president in your lifetime, and one that must travel beyond the hearing, beyond election day, to find actual new expression in our individual participation in American democracy.

Make your voice heard through the power of your vote, of course. But don’t lay down before the troubles that are sure to ensue once the reality of the CHANGE that is upon us begins to take shape in actual policies of a new administration.  “We the People” must be willing to run and rule our democracy again.

Accept the challenges that lay ahead; Be the change you want to see in America, and in the World.  Fiercely. Urgently. Now.

The watchword of the universe is progress.
