The World of the Cross

URANTIAOur world— Urantia— has become known among other neighboring inhabited planets as the “World of the Cross.”

For newbies to this blog who’ve never heard of The Urantia Book, just the caption on the photo above holds the potential to make their head explode.
“. . . neighboring inhabited planets”??  Uh huhh.

crossesBut.  Yeah.  If all you’ve ever thought of calling the planet you walk around on is “earth,” then your planetary provincialism rules you pretty much unrecognized.  That is, even though you may be/have been a Star Trek/Star Wars fan back in the day, enjoy science fiction, and maybe you have even enjoyed the thirteen episodes of Carl Sagan‘s 1980 groundbreaking series, “Cosmos,”  for whatever reasons, you’ve never seriously examined the notion that a universe hierarchy of other inhabited worlds— many of whom are certainly far older and more advanced than ours— may know of our world through means most of us have not even imagined.

The Cosmos programs were to many “earth dwellers” or “Urantians” around the world a wonderful introduction to the very concept of cosmology;  a comprehensive approach to a personal understanding of reality existence, which includes among all other things, a relative comprehension of the origin, purpose, and destiny of the Universe, and of consciousness and the nature of reality existence.

But.  I’m too far afield already.  The notion that someone else named our world “Urantia” and that the surrounding universe knows we put the Son of God on a cross, and our world has subsequently become known to them as “The World of the Cross,” are bits of information filtered out of a little known revelatory instruction to our world in cosmology.

That would be The Urantia Book.  That’s another vitally important tangential discussion of indeterminate length for another time;  we’re frying much smaller fish here today.

Sad as it may be, our world is more or less ignorant of its own origins; even its physical origins.  So it’s not insane to expect someone out in the inhabited universe that surrounds us, who knows a great deal more than we do about the cosmos,  to do the “Christian” thing and share some reliable cosmic information with us.  As you might expect, such information is of immense value to us, in that it can help clarify our current cosmic knowledge by:

1. Reducing our confusion by the authoritative elimination of error.

2. Coordinating known or about-to-be-known facts and observations.

3. Restoring important bits of lost knowledge concerning epochal transactions of the distant past.

4. Supplying information which fills in vital missing gaps in our knowledge.

5. Presenting cosmic data in a way that it illuminates the spiritual teachings contained in the rest of The Urantia Book.

The writers of The Urantia Book blithely tell us that our civilization is in danger when our youth neglect to interest themselves in things like “ethics, sociology, eugenics, philosophy, the fine arts, religion, and cosmology.” If you just went “Oh Snap!” on yourself, you’re probably feeling like part of the problem, huh. I know the feeling. But seriously;  check this out:

Only in the higher levels of the superconscious mind as it impinges upon the spirit realm of human experience can you find those higher concepts in association with effective master patterns which will contribute to the building of a better and more enduring civilization.  Personality is inherently creative, but it thus functions only in the inner life of the individual.

What that means in low-information English is really quite simple:  If you want to live in a better world than say, the one envisioned and wreaked upon us by George W. Dick-Bush, the neocons, and fundamentalist Christians, for example, then you’ll have to start getting in touch with what’s most real inside you, and maybe cut way way back on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Supernatual.”

So here we are;  livin’ large during insanely tense times of change for the whole planet, the planet that is known to our fellow cosmic travelers as “The World of the Cross,” because we screwed the pooch by crucifying the Son of God. As good as time as any to get to the bottom of those terrifyingly deep questions, “Who am I, What am I, Where am I, and What am I doing here.”  Or not.

But I’ll conclude with a few excerpts from the UB that will either stimulate your imagination and curiosity, or make your eyes glaze over.  Either way, it’s a brave new world spinning ’round out there today, and as long as you’re walking on it, you may as well know all you can about the real reality of your existence here on the World of the Cross, Urantia.

The extraordinary and unusually cruel experience through which Jesus of Nazareth passed has caused Urantia to become locally known as “the world of the cross.” It is not necessary that such inhuman treatment be accorded a Son of God, and the vast majority of planets have afforded them a more considerate reception, allowing them to finish their mortal careers, terminate the age, adjudicate the sleeping survivors, and inaugurate  a new dispensation, without imposing a violent death. A bestowal Son must encounter death, must pass through the whole of the actual experience of mortals of the realms, but it is not a requirement of the divine plan that this death be either violent or unusual.

Urantia is the sentimental shrine of all Nebadon, the chief of ten million inhabited worlds, the mortal home of Christ Michael, sovereign of all Nebadon, a Melchizedek minister to the realms, a system savior, an Adamic redeemer, a seraphic fellow, an associate of ascending spirits, a morontia progressor, a Son of Man in the likeness of mortal flesh, and the Planetary Prince of Urantia. And your record tells the truth when it says that this same Jesus has promised some time to return to the world of his terminal bestowal, the World of the Cross.
