Bachmann Adds To Her Legacy

Well, the hits keep on coming. Michelle Bachmann on the suspicious re-emergence of swine flu “under another Democratic president”:

I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out then under another Democrat president Jimmy Carter,” said Bachmann. “And I’m not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it’s an interesting coincidence.”

Er, Michelle. That incident of swine flu occurred under Gerald Ford, not Jimmy Carter. And while it turned out to be less than lethal, Ford’s response was. Swearing he would inoculate every American, he gave up after killing over 40 of them, and causing extensive neurological damage in others that survived.

Keep it up, gal. We’re rooting for ya!

Rethug Rep. Virginia Foxx from North Carolina deserves at least an honorable mention:

During a debate in the House on federal comprehensive hate crimes legislation, North Carolina Rep. Virginia Foxx referred to supporters of comprehensive hate crimes legislation as pulling a “hoax” on the American public in naming the bill after Matthew Shepard, an openly gay man who was beaten by two men outside of Laramie, Wyoming, in 1998.

Shepard later died of his injuries; news accounts from the time noted that the men later convicted of killing him, Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney, referenced Shepard’s sexuality, with the New York Times reporting that, “According to the local police and prosecutors, the two men lured Mr. Shepard out of a bar by saying they were gay.

“Then, the Laramie police say, the pair kidnapped Mr. Shepard, pistol-whipped him with a .357 Magnum, and left him tied to a ranch fence for 18 hours until a passing bicyclist spotted Mr. Shepard, who was unconscious,” the Times added, as quoted in an April 29 article at The Huffington Post about Foxx’s remark.

The severity of Shepard’s beating fits a pattern of “overkill” observed in instances where gays are robbed and attacked, with perpetrators justifying the crimes on the basis of the victim’s sexual orientation…

    FYI:

You didn’t think we were just going to give up, did you?

Congressional leaders chose not to censure Michele Bachmann after she called Democrats unpatriotic before last year’s election. But you and I know she has no business in Congress, and I hope you’ll join me in making sure Bachmann loses — and loses big — in November 2010.

I’m working with friends to create a political action committee that will create and run ads targeting Michele Bachmann and other politicians who question the patriotism of people like you and me.

This is going to be a big undertaking that will have a significant impact on the races we target. Your energy, commitment, and creativity are absolutely critical to our success.

Here’s the first thing you can do to help: We need your ideas for our PAC’s name.

Can you help? We need a name that shows we are dedicated to a better America, one where our elected representatives stand up for what’s right.

Since getting back to Congress, Bachmann hasn’t moderated her views or stopped her insulting rhetoric against Democrats. Just this week she actually implied the swine flu was somehow the fault of a Democratic president. (No, really.)

So we’re going to make sure that on Election Night in 2010, we’re celebrating her defeat. It’s going to take a lot of hard work over the next 18 months, but it will definitely be worth it.

    Thanks for your help,
