Let Them Eat Fake (Update)

Rachel Maddow lists the fake news that shapes the wingnut world

Climate gate, the ACORN scandal, death panels, President Obama’s fake birth certificate, his evil plan to repeal the second amendment and even prevent people from going fishing, the plan to hire thousands of armed IRS agents to enforce health care reform– all bull, as Rachel politely puts it.

Other Faux News is rancid with the stink of Rethuglican hypocrisy. They rail against bank bailouts and the rescue of GM, but it was George W. Bush that instigated both. They promised to run on repealing the health care bill and are now backing away in droves. Michelle Bachmann leads a crusade to undermine the census, then backs away when she discovers that undercounting Minnesotans could make her own district vanish.

Rethugs wail about reading suspected terrorists their Miranda rights and giving them civilian trials, yet supported both when they ran the government. They whine about recess appointments and passing legislation using established Senate rules like reconciliation, completely ignoring the fact that they used both frequently. They voted against the stimulus, then took credit for it when the money started flowing into their districts, happily posing in front of poster sized checks.

As Ronald Reagan famously said– Facts are stupid things.  No wonder he’s the icon of wingnuts everywhere.

UPDATE: According to Huffpo’ s Sam Stein, a new poll by Newt Gingrich‘s Winston Group shows that:

Forty-seven percent of Tea Party respondents said that Fox News was either the top or second source of news they turn to, compared with 19 percent of the overall public who said the same thing.

Can’t say I’m shocked.

Falsehood is not a matter of narration technique but something premeditated as a perversion of truth. The creation of new pictures out of old facts, the restatement of parental life in the lives of offspring—these are the artistic triumphs of truth. The shadow of a hair’s turning, premeditated for an untrue purpose, the slightest twisting or perversion of that which is principle—these constitute falseness.
