In John Carpenter’s classic 1988 sci-fi movie They Live, a race of evil aliens has secretly taken over the planet. They maintain control by broadcasting stealth radio frequencies that not only makes them look like human members of the ruling class, but encodes subliminal messages into various advertising media to manipulate the populace, commanding them to obey, consume, and reproduce. . .
It makes perfect sense that the Son of God— having previously been treated with such warmth and respect by the natives— would want to return to our little planet post-haste for a cordial sit-down to go over the few remaining problem areas of our planetary theology, by abandoning all those poor chumps not willing to tow the Christian party line; oh, and of course, put the chosen few on his jumbo-rapture-jetliner to Pearly Gate International.
I’m still annoyed that so many Christians are concerned about the supposedly impending destruction of the world as their apocalyptic myth would have it, and yet remain in total denial of the impending destruction of the world as it is actually unfolding via global ecological disaster. The best way to follow their endtimes fetish is, of course, through Apocalypse magazine.
